Change Your Thinking

What happens when you go through the day on “auto-pilot”? Everything you do is one flip-switch away from “disengage.” When we’re conscious, we’re making choices with awareness. We don’t just go to the restaurant with our friend and say, “I’ll have the same as you.” A salad taste different than a melted cheese sandwich. By being conscious, we can imagine the taste and if it agrees with the mood and desire we have then. We have free will. We’re at choice.

By being aware of our consciousness, we’re not getting sucked in, or over-ridden by the collective consciousness. Try this: Go to different locations (stores, states, parts of town, countries) and just feel the energy. You’ll feel the difference, if you’re aware. You don’t even have to look for visual cues. The energy will override the passive, the “I’ll have the same as you” because I don’t want to think for myself folks. When you’re in an atmosphere like that, it’s even more important to be aware of your choices; your mindset. If you’re in a crowd and feel a shift of your mood, it’s very likely the energy of the crowd lifting or pulling you down. If it lifts you, realize you can do that on your own. You don’t need to pull from them, and it’s better if you become a contributor to that feeling rather than going to be lifted by them. Because, if you go to be lifted, you will drop when you leave that group/event.

When we pray, it’s more effective to pray for a raised consciousness than for immediate good. Many people win the lottery, or receive a windfall of money from other means, and within a few years they are broke. They had the consciousness to get the money, but not the consciousness to keep the money. This is true of relationships, health—anything. It may take longer to demonstrate when you pray for an increased consciousness, but when you do demonstrate, your consciousness is at a higher level of foundation. Once you are comfortable at this level, you will again be able to raise your consciousness to the next level. Consciousness works the same for getting and taking. What we focus on increases. Is your focus on ease and abundance, or hardship and lack? The universe responds impersonally with “Yes!”

Hoping, wanting, even working really hard doesn’t change anything—unless you change your thinking.

Exercise:

  • Everything has a level of vibration. What sound, color, shape or feeling do you hear/see/feel when you are around certain groups of people? Don’t judge, just be aware.

Cultivating Your Consciousness

You are responsible for cultivating your consciousness. If you’re using Spiritual Mind Treatment (affirmative prayer) for world travel, is your passport ready? Have you figured out the route, or priced tickets? God works for us to the extent we allow It to work through us.

The Law (Universe, Law of Nature) responds to our thoughts, our beliefs, the directions we give it with conviction, or repetition. We’re responsible for everything that happens to us—”good” “or ‘bad”, and we always have free will to change what happens to us. Everything is perception. “Change your thinking, change your life” is not Pollyanna, but taking responsibility to change one’s thinking, and therefore experience. Look at your life and make a list of things that you’re proud of. Realize that you’re responsible for your consciousness drawing to you these wonderful experiences. We’re the ones who knock on the door, and we’re the ones who answer the door. The impersonal Law requires we work this way.

Make a list of things in your life of which you’re proud. This can be winning a spelling bee in grade school; a hula-hoop contest; physical healings; healings of relationships – or releasing them; going to college; getting that job – whatever you’d give yourself a pat on the back for if you didn’t get caught up in “yeah, but…” or “that would be bragging.” Once you start the list, keep it and add to it. It’ll end up being quite long! You are an expression of God. In what wonderful ways has God expressed through you so far? (Make this fun. On my list I even have things like guessing the right number of candy in the jar at a childhood friend’s birthday party – thus winning the candy!) I can still feel how excited I was.

The opposite is true, too. Taking responsibility for the beliefs, thoughts and actions that bring us down a path we decide not to continue. It doesn’t matter who gave us that belief. We can change it once we decide to. It doesn’t mean all the “wrong” thinking was “bad”, it means things may have been easier for us with “correct” thinking. Realize that “wrong” thinking may have brought us to a point to be willing to switch over to “correct” thinking. Again, it’s not about right and wrong, it’s about perspective, and what we do when we find ourself in hot water. We can either take a bath, or get out!

Happiness and your subconscious mind

Happiness isn’t about being blind to world conditions. It’s about doing what you can to make a difference, and not giving power to things over you have no control. You can still be happy and help out causes such as abuse, neglect and hunger.

Happiness is a habit. What a great habit to think about! When you wake up, do you chose to be happy? Do you chose to have the day flow in favor of good will, right action, and peace for all? Throughout the day, give thanks. Pay for success—not just for you, but for co-workers, family members, neighbors, someone you just met. When we bless others, it comes right back to us, so why not share the blessings?

Some people say they aren’t happy, and they prove it. They are miserable! Happiness is a habit, and that habit comes from practice, and desire. Sometimes we get benefits from our “issues.” Does not being happy mean others feel sorry for you, running around, trying to “make you happy?” Or maybe since your partner doesn’t like to go out, you stay home with them, to “make you happy.” It doesn’t work. Soon enough, they’ll find another reason for someone to “do” something to “make” them happy.

I actually don’t enjoy going to restaurants. They’re loud, often cold, and uncomfortable. If the chairs don’t move, they seem a mile away from the table. The food is fatty, salty and the vegetables (if you get any) are buttered and mushy. If the place is dark, I sense cock roaches near by. For my birthday, I request an at-home meal, even if I cook. (I don’t even request it anymore, it’s just a matter of what, and who’s involved now.) Having said this, external things are the cause, not the effect of happiness. I’ve had some wonderful times at restaurants—even on my birthday. Our thoughts are the cause, and the cause creates the effect.

It serves us well to know what we like and don’t like. From there, we can make choices. In the case of restaurants, I can just go with the flow and feed my soul with the friendship that surrounds me at the restaurant. Or, I can invite the person/people over to my place for a meal, a cup of tea—whatever. I can also see if a non-meal time works and offer up a hike somewhere or a museum visit. We really are always at choice. In the last year I’ve eaten out more than ever before. I’ve even enjoyed a lot of it. I also have plenty of people take me up on a comfortable, quiet atmosphere at my place, and have met some people in the morning, or after lunch for our social fix.

Affirmative Prayer. Step 4 of 6. Claim It.

This forth step is known as declaration or claiming. So many people rush to this step, because it’s the step you claim what you want! In reality, rushing to this step is silly, because without the foundation of recognizing God, unifying with God, and pulling weed-beliefs – big whoop if you claim your desire, right?

Affirmative prayer is said in the present tense. If you say, “I will get that job…” it’s in the future. No matter how close it is, it’ll be out of reach. “I enjoy my perfect-right job…” is an affirmative statement. This is the stage to be very clear on what you want, not what others want for you. If you can’t get to a point of feeling your conviction about your prayer, re-think if it’s what you want. Is it your desire? Get excited about it on a cellular level. Get as many senses involved as possible. What does it/you look like? Does it have a delightful smell? Or taste? What are the sounds? What does it feel like? If you’re vague, the universe will give you vague results, because It matches perfectly to the extent we direct It.

If you don’t believe your desire is obtainable (or you’ve been praying for a really long time) investigate your belief surrounding your desire. Sure, being a millionaire would be nice, but if you don’t have the consciousness to draw to you that type of money, then you must first build the consciousness. The same is true for anything. This is why some people seem to demonstrate certain things right away. It’s all consciousness.

If doubt comes up, go back to steps one, two and three (recognition, unification and denial). Then, you’re ready to return to step four, declaration. At this stage, you’re directing the Law of Nature to heal you in-spite of you. Tell God that you’re willing to be willing—if you are. This works wonders in the area of forgiveness, moving through fear or any other sticking points we may fall into.

Why do we rush to the declaration step to tell God what we want, yet we haven’t spent time even recognizing and embodying with our Source? In stating your claim, remember the “how” it’s done isn’t up to you. It’s up to God. It’s really none of your business “how” our good comes to us. In the declaration step, your part is to place the order for your good.

If we become control-freaks with “how” things unfold, we won’t get far with prayer. We’ll only get in the way. I’ve had some wonderful experiences that came “out of the blue” that would have not happened if I outlined “how” I’d accept my good. Pray for your good, do your part, but be flexible and allow the “how” it manifests to surprise you! I didn’t know two places I planned to stay in Europe would burn down before my arrival. In Norway, a hotel gifted me with my stay because the place I expected to stay burned down. On another trip, the last flight out of Ireland arrived in Scotland late at night. I learned the closest place was over an hour from the airport, and it, too, had burned down before I arrived. I didn’t have a clue where I’d sleep prior to the news that my luggage not making the flight. The night-shift janitor worked around me in this small, rural airport while I slept on a row of seats, in gratitude. In the morning, the airport gifted me with breakfast and immense thanks for my attitude. My luggage arrived on the first morning flight. After a great start to the morning, I headed to another town, as planned. In New Zealand, I had a car given to me for six months. Things happen when we allow God to work without outlining “how” it should show up in our experience.

Being clear without outlining “how” is important. There’s a place between “I want a loving relationship” with is vague (a loving relationship can be with family, friends, or a cuddly puppy.) “I want to meet this person at a coffee house and they earn this amount of income” is outlining. State what you want. Leave the rest to God.

 

Affirmative Prayer. Step 3 of 6. Denial.

Denial is the third step in Spiritual Mind Treatment, if it’s used. If we experience an appearance of separation, this is the place in treatment where we direct the Energy (God, Higher Self) to remove any cause of any fear, pain, lack or beliefs in any need to experience the appearance of things unwanted.

We’re not denying there are problems. We’re denying those problems have power, and we’re denying that any cause of problems need to continue. We’re always at the point of choice. We must be honest with ourselves. If we’re too proud, hurt or stubborn, we may not be able to see that in some way, it was our misguided thinking that brought something less than wonderful into our experience. In the essay, “Spiritual Laws,” Ralph Waldo Emerson writes, “Let us take our bloated nothingness out of the path of the divine circuits.” The issue to be dealt with is never the experience (the effect) but the belief (the cause) behind it. If you’re having trouble at work, it’s not the work. There’s a belief, even if deep and unknown that needs to be healed to change the situation. When that belief is changed, the situation will change. You may love the job, or find a better one. If the belief isn’t dealt with, and you just leave the job, you’ll have a hassle at the next job, too. Levels of consciousness follow us. The good news is if we grow our consciousness, that follows us, too.

Dealing with the cause instead of the effect, is similar to pulling up a weed. If we keep chopping off the top, the weed will keep growing back. We’ve only dealt with the effect, not the cause of the weed. If we spend time and effort to get to the root of the weed, we’ll have tended to our garden in a way that ultimately benefits everyone who experiences it.

Whatever the cause of the block we experience—known or unknown—tell the cause of the block, as Ernest Holmes put it, “Go back to the nothingness from where you came.” Then replace the thought you’ve negated with one you chose to nurture. Prove to yourself by talking to yourself, and visualizing what you do want to experience. Talk yourself into believing the reasons it’s possible—and therefore possible for you to achieve. What you can conceive and believe, you can achieve.

Tell your Higher Self to heal the cause of any belief in needing to experience chaos, strife, lack —anything unlike harmony. Any cause of anything unlike perfect health, wealth, mutually loving relationships, happiness, order, etc. It’s removed from your experience now. It dissolves as quickly as a cube of sugar in a cup of hot tea, and is replaced with the attribute you wish to experience. The Law of nature abhors a void. Make sure you replace what you direct to be removed with what you desire. Otherwise, nature takes the path of least resistance, replacing the newly removed with itself because it hasn’t been directed to do otherwise.

Direct your higher self to pull the weed-cause of what you don’t want, and then you direct It by planting the idea you do want. The trick with this is that you don’t go back and gossip, bad mouth money, or talk about what you’ve just directed the Universe to delete. If so, just keep on it. Delete the cause, replace with the desire.

Are your Prayers on Rush, Priority Basis?

People spend hours looking for the right item in stores, catalogs, and online. And yet, they may spend five minutes in prayer. While it’s possible to manifest immediately, we tend to manifest more regularly and more quickly when we’re “prayed up.” Which means, by doing our meditation and prayer work on a regular basis, and being present when we do it (rather than day dreaming or making our to-do list during our prayer time), we’ll find that right item we head out to the store for, without having to spend hours upon hours searching.

Prayer doesn’t guarantee “Rush/Priority” service. Which is good, actually. It usually means something better is in the works. The answered prayer may take more time to manifest if more than one person is involved. There may be someone who wants a promotion. Someone else who wants a new boss, and a third person wanting to move across country. A house many need to be bought/sold, bringing other players into answered prayer. The job listing needs to be seen or heard, and the application received by someone in line with the person applying. The person wanting a promotion may stay at the company where they are, or go to an even better opportunity. Some things we desire seem to take forever to unfold. If we ever learn what took place behind the scenes, we’re amazed at how perfectly it did unfold.

We may think some of our prayers aren’t answered. If you trace that prayer back, you’ll find one of two things: Either you shifted. (God doesn’t shift, we do.) You changed your mind and got wishy-washy on your vision—which brings a wishy-washy answer. Or, looking back you can see you were open to “This or something better.” You didn’t get what you expected, therefore think prayer wasn’t answered. I look back on jobs, relationships, and situations that didn’t manifest as I expected and I am now thrilled (even if not necessarily so when it happened . . . back then.)

I’ve gotten much better at praying with full intent to receive my good, while expecting “This or something better” —and not being a puddle of mush when “something better” is on its way from invisible to visible. (Meaning, it didn’t work out as my glorious plan calculated.) We continue to grow. Give God time, and you’ll receive it back, ten fold. It’s like any other relationship. They’re more sweet when we’re focused, present, and giving of ourselves.

Brainstorm for some ways in which you recognize God. Allow any positive attribute to count. I love to find God in nature, but tonight, I see God in my kitchen! The weather is cold. I didn’t want to go outside, to the store for food. I looked around and saw I had everything I needed to make tortilla soup. Thanks, God! I’m abundant! I’m provided for! How fortunate I am! Mmmm, this soup is good! It’s thinking like this that the universe loves. I feel better, and the universe responds with, “Yes!”

Envision it!

Spiritual Law is as if there is one stick; a continuum. Even if things seem opposite, such as hot and cold and light and dark they are two ends to the same stick; different degrees of the same energy. Cold is the absence of a degree of heat. Dark is the absence of a degree of light. Everything is on this continuum. For every action there is a reaction. This is the Law of Cause and Effect, or as Ralph Waldo Emerson called it, the Law of Compensation. Our thinking and consciousness may change, but the Law is constant. It is principle.

The Law of Spirit is impersonal. We personalize the Law. It works the same for everyone. Water will refresh, or drown life. Gravity will bounce the ball when we drop it, or kill us if we jump out of an airplane without a parachute. If someone has a consciousness of mutually loving relationships or perfect health, they’ll draw to them experiences that support their beliefs—just as someone who has the consciousness of lack and limitation will draw effects that support their beliefs. This is not the universe choosing who will have and who will go without; it is the universe saying, “Yes” to all we choose. Even if our choices are not ones of joy, we are free to choose.

What is something you would like to create in your life? (Better health, order, increased loving relationships, more positive cash flow…)

  • Take that idea and nurture it. As an example, if you want to create better health, look at what you’re putting into your body, your sleep patterns, what you do – or don’t do for your mind, body and soul. What are you saying about or to your body? Are you are willing to make one small change this week toward your goal?
  • Envision the outcome of what you want to create. (It can be improved health, increased wealth, more loving relationships, a fantastic job—whatever.) What does the outcome look like? What does it feel like? In your mind, what are you hearing you and others say about your wonderful outcome? Where are you? What are you doing?  Who is with you? Bring in all your senses as strongly as you can into the creation of your vision in mind. Come from a feeling glory and celebration – of really being in the moment where this creation is taking place. Not from a feeling of wishing, hoping, yearning for “one day” – because those are feelings of lack (I wish I had…) and your body will take on the feeling of lack instead of feeling of, Yippee!!! It’s like daydreaming with intention. Make it fun.

Are you washing your ten-year old car as if it is your new Jaguar? Or are you not washing it, and talking trash about it when you get into it?

Money and the Subconscious Mind

The conscious mind is the ship’s master. If you go around saying, “I have no money” your subconscious mind take you at your word, because the subconscious mind follows directions. It cannot argue, decide or initiate—It’s the servant of your conscious mind.

If you say, “I don’t have money”, your subconscious mind works to ensure you don’t have money for what you want. (Because that’s what you’re saying.) Your subconscious mind is just following your orders. Rather than saying, “I can’t afford that” try saying, “I choose to use my money elsewhere” or “I’ve budgeted for something else right now”.

It’s not about giving up desire for what you can’t purchase right now, it’s about being real, fiscally intelligent and planting the seed for the item to come your way. It doesn’t matter how expensive the item is, either. Who knows? Maybe it’ll be given to you as a gift, or you win it, or you have the money sooner than you originally expected.

Years ago while window shopping, I saw a dress at a boutique. I said, “That’s for me!” I went inside the store. The dress wasn’t in my budget, but I tried it on anyway. It fit and looked great on me. I took note of the size, and told myself I’d check back, and if it was on sale, I’d get it if I still liked it. A month later I did go back. My size was the only one left—and it was 50% off! I tried it on again and still liked it, so bought it. I still have this classic red dress with black velvet cuffs and collar. It still looks good, and I still love it.

I’ve known two people who were gifted with cars by non-family members. One of the cars was brand-spankin’ new. I’ve gifted people with travel, money, and finding what they’d been looking for, but couldn’t find themselves. I’ve won money, books, a Cat-in-the-Hat Pillow (at age six-when it was really important!), a month of in-door rock climbing, candy,  a scarf, hula-hoop contests —and cancer—twice.

Say, “I’m a winner!” and act like one. In other words, name it. Claim it. Act accordingly.

New Thought, New Outcome

In the Hindu scriptures, The Bhagavad Gita states:

Try this for one week, one day—or one hour. If you are successful, bump it up and keep it going. Like all of nature, we ebb and flow. We’ll be on target, then drop off. That’s when to be even more conscious about our thoughts, words and actions.
